Margaret Lorrain Smith Wanted For Husband’s Murder: $13,500 Reward
There is a $13,500 reward for a woman, Margaret Lorrain Smith, who is wanted for hiring a man to kill her husband. She has been on the run for more than 10 years.
Smith, 62, is wanted for capital murder. On Aug. 6, 2007, she is accused of hiring a guy to assassinate her husband, George Smith.
Smith’s reward has been temporarily upped to $8,500 by Texas Crime Stoppers. The Brazoria County Crime Stoppers are also offering a $5,000 prize for information leading to Smith’s arrest.
Smith brought her husband to Surfside Beach late that night and left him sitting in the sand as the man (Dylan Laughrey) she hired beat him to death with a metal instrument, according to authorities.
That same year, Smith and the guy were charged with capital murder. Her co-defendant was found guilty afterward.
Smith has been on the run since Aug. 11, 2009, when she fled Brazoria County while on bond, just before her trial was to begin.
She was last seen on camera getting into a maroon four-door vehicle, which detectives suspect was a Lincoln Continental, in a San Antonio-area Walmart that month.
Smith stands 5’6″ tall and weighs around 185 pounds. Her dark, curly hair is regularly dyed or wigged, and she has a mole on the bottom of her right eyelid.
Tips can be submitted via the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477), through the Texas DPS website, or via Facebook tip by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link.
