Illinois man arrested after ‘ghost gun’ & drugs were found during traffic stop

Last week, an Illinois man was detained when police in Orland Park discovered a “ghost pistol” in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Police in the south suburbs stopped a car around the 9400 block of 159th Street on Friday. Officers said they smelled marijuana inside the vehicle when conversing with the driver.

According to police, the driver admitted to officers that he was using marijuana and that he had more inside the vehicle.

The car and its three passengers were searched by police. Officers discovered around seven grams of cannabis that was not packaged in the way it should have been in a legal shop.

Officers also discovered a Polymer 9mm Glock “ghost pistol” constructed with “aftermarket components” in the rear seat.

Police said there was no serial number on it. “It was also fitted with a laser sight and a 30-round extended magazine.”

According to authorities, the rear seat passenger, 21-year-old Caleb Mezo of Chebanse, informed officers he was the gun’s owner. Mezo does not have a FOID card or a concealed carry license in Illinois.

Mezo was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, a felony of the fourth degree.

Mezo was taken to the Cook County Department of Corrections the next day and was issued a $15,000 bail.
