Chelsea Coach Graham Potter Awards and Trophies
Graham Potter was named Chelsea‘s new head coach on September 8, 2022, succeeding Thomas Tuchel.
After three successful years at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he replaced Chris Hughton at the end of the 2018/19 Premier League season, the 47-year-old joined Chelsea.
Potter played in the Football League for 13 years, mostly as a full-back for Birmingham City, Stoke City, and West Bromwich Albion.
Potter retired from playing in 2005 and went on to work as a football development manager at Hull University, with a brief stint as technical director of Ghana’s women’s team at the 2007 World Cup.
Potter’s first senior managerial position was as coach of fourth-tier Swedish club Ostersunds in December 2010.
He guided them to successive promotions in 2011 and 2012 before leading them to the top flight for the first time in their history in October 2015.
Potter’s side won the Swedish Cup eighteen months later and earned a place in the Europa League, where they won three qualifiers and finished second in their group to set up a last-32 meeting with Arsenal.
Awards
Graham Potter was named Manager of the Year in Sweden’s top flight after guiding Ostersunds to a top-half finish in their first season after promotion in 2016, and he retained the award the following year after improving to finish fifth in the Allsvenskan table and winning the Swedish Cup.
He was also named the best coach in the country in any sport at the 2017 Swedish Sports Awards.
Trophies
Over the last three seasons, Graham Potter’s Brighton & Hove Albion team broke a number of club records, often more than once, as they continued to break new ground year after year.
The Seagulls’ ninth-place finish, total of 51 points, and 42 goals scored last season were all the club’s best-ever in the Premier League, while their 4-0 win over Manchester United in May was their largest winning margin in the competition.
Potter’s Brighton’s 12 clean sheets in 2020/21 are also a top-flight club record.
