Potter played in the Football League for 13 years, mostly as a full-back for Birmingham City, Stoke City, and West Bromwich Albion.
In 1996/97, he made eight Premier League appearances for Southampton, including a memorable 6-3 win over Manchester United, and was also selected for an England Under-21 match against Moldova that season.

Over the last three seasons, Graham Potter’s Brighton & Hove Albion team broke a number of club records, often more than once, as they continued to break new ground year after year.
The Seagulls’ ninth-place finish, a total of 51 points, and 42 goals scored last season were all the club’s best-ever in the Premier League, while their 4-0 win over Manchester United in May was their largest winning margin in the competition. Graham Potter has spent just over three seasons in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.
His Brighton side finished 15th and 16th in the table before rising to ninth last season, and they currently sit fourth in the table after a 5-2 win over Leicester City in Potter’s final match at the Amex Stadium.
On 8 September 2022, Potter was officially appointed the new head coach of Premier League club Chelsea on a five-year deal, replacing Thomas Tuchel.
